Life of Young Migrants in the Czech Republic Through Their Eyes (2018)
Life of Young Migrants in the Czech Republic Through Their Eyes (2018)
The project was co-financed by the MoI CR from the non-investment dotation from the state budget of the Czech Republic “Integration of Foriegners 2018”
The objective of this project was to enhance the active involvement of young migrants from third countries in order to promote harmonious co-existence between migrants and the host society and build greater social inclusion and cohesion. To this end, real stories told by real people were captured and presented. This exercise fostered intercultural dialogue, deepening understanding, respect for diversity, tolerance and demystification of the established stereotypes.
In order to focus on key areas of integration of TCNs, the Government of the Czech Republic formulated a strategy on the integration of TCNs and defined key indicators of integration: education, employment, legal rights, criminal justice, health, living conditions and civic participation. The last amendment of the 2017 strategy “In Mutual Respect” aimed at preventing cultural and religious intolerance and xenophobia, and at empowering youth for social change.
At the end of 2015, there were 90 734 young migrants aged between 15 – 29 living in the Czech Republic representing approximately one fifth of the total migrant population (493 000 migrants) in the country. Encouraging and supporting young migrants to share their experiences, thoughts and challenges and to participate in civil society organizations can make a dynamic contribution to building respectful, inclusive and peaceful societies.
By fostering active participation of young migrants - a dynamic, flexible group which can rapidly adapt to new attitudes and approaches - through media and social media, their feeling of being an integral part of the majority society was enhanced and their opportunity to play an important role in it has been raised. Furthermore, by raising public awareness about active participation of young migrants in the host society, better mutual understanding and acceptance has been supported. Such results have fostered the integration process and promote harmonious coexistence between TCNs and the host society. Dialogue between TCNs and the host society has been, thus, promoted.
The project has also helped to increase awareness of general as well as professional public about participation of young migrants in the society and mutual understanding of attitudes, opinions and ideas has lead to bridging the gap between migrants and the host society.
