Summer School on Migration Studies 2009

Czech as well as foreign students from different universities attended the Summer School on Migration Studies which was held in the historical town of Jindřichův Hradec between 30. 8. - 5. 9. 2009. Students got opportunity to listen for one week to lectures of distinguished foreign and Czech experts on different migration topics.

Representatives of academia, IOM, NGOs as well as state administration covered different aspects of migration during lectures seminars and panel discussions – i.e. economic, political, legislative, sociological, demographic or cultural.

Among highlights of the program belonged presentation of professor Ronald Skeldon from University of Sussex focused on migration and developement or lecture of professor Phillipe de Bruycker from the Université Libre de Bruxelles about migration legislation of the EU.

As well as introduction of migration essentials by IOM Special Policy Adviser to the Director General Gervais Appave or workshop by IOM labour migration policy expert Elisabeth Warn were very warm response by students.

The project was funded by the Czech Ministry of Interior and implemented in cooperation with the Faculty of Management of the University of Economics. The first pilot year should be repeated on regular basis every summer.
