Awareness Campaign Targets the Demand Side of Human Trafficking
Working with La Strada and Caritas, the IOM office in Prague has
launched a nationwide information campaign designed to address the
demand side of trafficking.
The five-month long information campaign, entitled "Don't Be
Afraid to Say It for Her", aims to raise awareness among the
general public and, more specifically, among potential or actual
clients of prostitution.
As part of the campaign, dedicated websites in Czech (

"http://www.rekni-to.cz">www.rekni-to.cz ), German (
"paragraph-link-no-underline" href=
"http://www.sage-es.cz">www.sage-es.cz ) and English (
"paragraph-link-no-underline" href=
"http://www.say-it.cz">www.say-it.cz ) have been set up to
provide up-to-date information on trafficking and contact details
for people who wish to report suspected cases of trafficking using
telephone hotlines set up by IOM's partners La Strada and Caritas
(+ 420 605 988 566 or + 420 222 717 171).
Posters, flyers and other information materials in Czech, German
and English will be displayed in high visibility locations, such as
public transportation hubs, at border crossings with Germany and
Austria, and in clubs and pubs in Prague and other main cities.
This initiative follows a recent survey and a regional
information campaign to raise awareness among potential clients,
including sex tourists from Austria, Germany and Great
Britain.
The Czech Republic is considered a country of origin, transit
and destination for human trafficking, with the vast majority of
victims trafficked for sexual and labour exploitation. Victims
trafficked to the Czech Republic have been found to come mostly
from Ukraine and other CIS (Commonwealth of Independent
States) countries, China, Vietnam, Mongolia and the
Balkans.
This campaign is funded by the Czech Ministry of Interior.
